7 Years Ago Today, Lionel Messi Twisted Jerome Boateng Into Oblivion At Camp Nou

Seven years ago today, Jerome Boateng endured the most humiliating of his career at the ends of Lionel Messi.

Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the Champions League semi-final first leg, with Messi notching twice and Neymar rounding off the win at the Nou Camp.

The Blaugrana left it late and scored three goals in the final 13 minutes but the quality of the irresistible MSN trident shone through.

Fed down the right flank, Messi twisted Boateng into next week in a 1v1 duel inside the box, putting him right on his backside with a deft dribble and change of direction.

After destroying Boateng and sending him back to Hamburg, Messi had the composure to dink the ball over the onrushing Manuel Neuer.

Barca won the tie 5-2 and progressed to the final, where they beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin.

Boateng has lifted titles galore in a decorated career but that rinsing from Messi will be the one moment people remember.

However, the former Manchester City defender took the ruining extremely well and isn't embarrassed looking back.

"That doesn't really affect me. I was laughing at myself. When you fall down or slip in a situation and somebody scores a goal, it's normal," Boateng told ESPN.

"These things happen; it happens to me, it happens to other players, I don't care about these things.

"For me, he's the best player in the world. That's football. Sometimes you look bad or something happens. I'm a defender, that doesn't kill me or anything."
