Antonio Conte 'would be OPEN to being Manchester United boss if called upon'

Antonio Conte has reportedly expressed an interest in managing Manchester United should the opportunity arise.

The 52-year-old is currently out of work having left Serie A giants Inter after guiding them to their first championship in 11 years.

Conte has experience of top-flight Premier League management after taking charge of Chelsea in 2016 and winning the title in his first campaign, at the same time as setting a new record for most wins in a season.

Now Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has said Conte would be interested in the Red Devils if they came knocking.

However, he would snub an offer from Arsenal, whose stock has fallen significantly in the past few years, with di Marzio saying Conte had similar reasons for turning down Tottenham.

Spurs approached Conte as one of several candidates over the summer to replace caretake Ryan Mason, but the Italian declined their offer.

'He would only accept a winning project,' di Marzio said. 'So I don't think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham.

'I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.'

Of course any approach for Conte from Old Trafford would be contingent on the club sacking current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has just presided over his seventh defeat in 11 Champions League games in charge of United after they lost 2-1 away to Young Boys on Wednesday.
