Arsenal fans are left furious at Newcastle's latest signing Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle's newest signing Bruno Guimaraes endeared himself to his new club and enraged those down at Arsenal in one fell swoop by mocking their interest in him in an unveiling video.

The 24-year-old joined the Magpies from Lyon on Sunday for an initial fee of £35million, which will rise to £41.5m should they stay up, surpassing the £40m they paid for his compatriot Joelinton in 2019.

In a video entitled 'A beautiful chapter is coming', posted on his own social media page, Guimaraes' clip begins by showing various cuttings of transfer rumours in the media linking Arsenal with a move for the Brazilian.

The focus on reported interest from Arsenal did not go unnoticed and fans of the Gunners were less than impressed, accusing Guimaraes of using 'their name for clout' and that they are no hoping Newcastle are relegated as a result.

'When you're relegated, don't come back crying for Arsenal,' one angry Arsenal fan tweeted in response.

'You just declared war on Arsenal fans,' another added. 'They are coming for you.'

User @OzilThings said: 'Name dropping Arsenal for clout' followed by three laughing emojis, as some fans resorted to gallows' humour.

'We were interested but didn't bid at all,' ZeeAFC tweeted. '"Arsenal Mudded" yeah right you were forced to pay over the odds.

'Stop creating false rumours to keep ur [sic] club relevant.'

'He's officially trolled Arteta and Edu... this institution is finished,' added another.

By contrast Newcastle fans embraced the 'pettiness' shown by their latest signing and some even suggested getting his video team jobs at the club as a result.

'A championship club that has more pull than you lol,' joked one fan, seemingly embracing the risk of relegation.

'Kinda bantering Arsenal in this video, the kind of pettiness we can all get behind,' another added.

The capture of Guimaraes represents something of a coup for head coach Eddie Howe and the club's new owners, whose spending has now topped £72m this month.

After landing Guimaraes, Howe said: 'Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I'm delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

'He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him.'

Newcastle are expecting a busy deadline day with Brighton centre back Dan Burn expected, as he is set to join the club for a fee of £11m plus £2m in add-ons.
