Arsenal retained the Emirates Cup after beating Monaco in a penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.
Aaron Ramsdale was the hero for the Gunners, saving an effort from former Liverpool winger Takumi Minamino to ensure that Mikel Arteta’s side triumphed 5-4.
It was a timely boost for the under-fire goalkeeper with Mikel Arteta seeking to sign David Raya from Brentford.
Defender Gabriel slotted home the winning penalty after Kai Havertz, Jorginho, Fabio Vieira and Martin Odegaard had all scored for Arsenal.
Mail Sport's Isaan Khan rated the players.
ARSENAL RATINGS (4-3-3)
Aaron Ramsdale 6
Made a solid save after eight minutes to deny the opposition. Could not have done anything about the deflected goal. A good stop to a powerful penalty in the shootout.
Jurrien Timber 7
Left back, right back, midfield? He can do it all, playing in all three positions across the 90 minutes.
William Saliba 5.5
An average performance, not near his best. Was caught out with a through ball early on, where he was saved by offside, and shown a yellow card for shoving a forward to the floor when beaten to the ball on 35 minutes.
Jakub Kiwior 5.5
Found himself out of position at times. Particularly noticeable due to the forward-thinking exploits of Timber and Tomiyasu.
Takehiro Tomiyasu 5.5
Stints at both right back and left back. Played a good pass to set Rice up, but gave his centre backs far too much work to do.
Fabio Vieira 6.5
Had much of the ball and provided a strong avenue to getting the ball up the pitch. Did not shy away from receiving play in tight areas.
Declan Rice 7
Rather impressive. Would’ve liked to have stopped more of the attacks going through the middle of the pitch, but he was hard to stop at the other end. Put in a number of effective crosses which his team-mates should’ve done more with.
Thomas Partey 6.5
A real presence in midfield. The opposition knew he was there, making interceptions and adding solidity to the middle.
Emile Smith Rowe 6
Full of energy, pressing the defence when not on the ball. End product was missing at times. A good through ball nearly set Vieira in on goal.
Eddie Nketiah 6.5
Provided a good pass to Martinelli, who failed to score, and struck a nice finish on the back post after sneaking in off a corner.
Gabriel Martinelli 6.5
Controlled play on the left side, and his dribbling caused the opposition nightmare. Only thing missing was a correct final ball.
Substitutes:
Kieran Tierney 6.5
Immediately made an interception which nearly led to a goal after coming on after 62 minutes. Looked impressive in the cameo.
Martin Odegaard 6
Slotted into the midfield calmly.
Kai Havertz 6
A short stint from the bench on his first home appearance at the Emirates. Slotted away his penalty kick.
Jorginho 6.5
Played a number of threatening passes through the backline channels, which put the opposition on edge. Ice cool spot-kick into a top corner. Classy operator.
Ben White 6
Put under pressure by the attack but did not wilt.
Leandro Trossard 6.5
Had a one-on-one opportunity against the keeper which he should have scored. That was before providing a great floated cross his team-mates failed to utilise.
Gabriel 6
Stable display at the back. Scored winning penalty.
Marquinhos 6
