Arsene Wenger speaks out about infamous zip troubles

Arsene Wenger has spoken out over his infamous troubles with his coat zip during his time at Arsenal.

The French manager had his Gunners contract cut short at the end of last season after 22 years at the club.

Wenger is the most successful manager in Arsenal’s history with three top-flight league titles and seven FA Cups.

Arriving in north London after a stint in Japan managing Nagoya Grampus Eight, Wenger was largely written off for a lack of credentials.

The spindly Frenchman proved to be revolutionary, however, implementing strict diets and idiosyncratic training regimes which modernised the Premier League.

In his first full season, Wenger won the Premier League and was at the helm for Arsenal’s 2003/04 Invincibles season.

For all his visionary success, however, it was a day-to-day action which constantly proved the bane of Wenger’s tenure.

Arsenal gifted their manager with a trademark touchline coat each season, which went down just below the knees.

It was designed to keep Wenger warm, only if the Frenchman could have done up the zip.

There are countless videos online where Wenger can be seen struggling to fasten his coat on the touchline.

The 69-year-old has now acknowledged the difficulty he used to have in an interview with beIN Sports.

“Yes, in fact I improved in that,” Wenger said when confronted with the topic.

“I was conscious of that!

“They are too long and sometimes the zip didn’t work. I struggled a lot with that.

“But, in the end, because people were showing it I was conscious that I was under scrutiny when doing it!”
