Mikel Arteta has called on his Arsenal to 'recharge' after the 'painful' loss against Newcastle which snuffed up their Carabao Cup final hopes on Wednesday evening.
The Gunners travelled to St James' Park with a view to overturning the 2-0 deficit of the first leg of their semi-final, which saw the hosts bettered at the Emirates last month.
But within minutes, the visitors were on the back foot, and although Alexander Isak's fourth-minute goal was later ruled out for offside, it didn't take long for the Magpies to take control of the home tie.
Jacob Murphy netted in the 19th minute and Anthony Gordon confirmed Eddie Howe's side's place in the Wembley final - where they will meet either Liverpool or Tottenham in March.
Just days after their thrashing of Manchester City 5-1, Arteta's players will be forced to take stock after losing 4-0 on aggregate, their wait for a domestic trophy rolling on.
And Arteta was keen to see his side take in the fullness of the defeat during their time off - with the squad set to travel to Dubai for warm-weather training while Premier League rivals play their FA Cup fourth-round matches.
'We need to swallow this one, it is a tough one,' Arteta said after full-time. 'We had a lot of expectations.
'We knew the difficulty of the task because of the result we brought from London. but there is nothing we can do right now.
'What we could do was on the pitch a few minutes ago, now we have to look forward. First of all, I think this is going to be a painful one.
'While we are in Dubai, recharge and go again because we still have a lot to play (for).'
Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup in their first match of the season, falling to Manchester United on penalties at the Emirates.
But their hopes in Europe remain alive after the side qualified automatically for a spot in the knockout phases.
Avoiding the play-offs of the European top flight will also allow Arteta's players a respite on the heels of a busy winter, which has seen them play 12 times in 41 days.
Faint hopes in the league are also not entirely extinguished after their important win against Pep Guardiola's men, with Arsenal now sitting six points off runaway leaders Liverpool - although the Reds have a game in hand.

This only proves we are not ready for any rewards with the team we have. Need warriors who are fearless ... Martinelli, Odeegard, Timber, Saliba, and the Keeper really stood out with their display .... terrible team match. stay fkn humble til we win something, tired of the same ol same ol

All comments are talking of Arsenal staying humble now my question: aren't there advisers at this club who can counsel the whole team including fanbase to reduce on boasting, talking too much and mockery so they concentrate on achieving positive results? even if you lose people would not ridicule you to this extent.
It's part of the game. Are you not enjoying the euphoria? Football without things like these become boring.

Dey play! Arsenal miss the trrick in the winter transfer season. They knew they needed a top striker. Guardiola, the man that made false nine popular could only achieve success with it because of the predatory instincts of MESSI surrounded by football genius such as Xavi, Iniesta, Busquet. The narrative by the great Guardiola that you can play and achieve good success with ten good midfielders, a good goalkeeper in a tournament cannot be achieved in this present modern dispensation. Arsenal lost to the technical and good physicality of Newcastle because of their lack of a good predatory top striker, imagine even a VAN PERSIE in this Arsenal team.
Guadiola doesn't made a false nine popular klopp liverpool have been playing a false nine with firmino long before pep even started it

Arsenal is not cursed, they are not just very ambitious well enough. i still don't know why Arsenal signed Mikel Merino and Calafiori, the fees for these two could have enable them signed a world class striker. 2. i still don't know the real purpose why they signed Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea when you have Sancho and Pedro available.
