The Liverpool pub where Steven Gerrard was pictured on Monday night amid rumours of his imminent sacking by Aston Villa has said the under-pressure manager just called in briefly and wasn't drinking heavily.
Tweets emerged on social media on Monday night of Gerrard posing for pictures in the Bowring Park pub in Liverpool amid suggestions Villa had sacked him following poor results.
One tweet suggested Gerrard was 'absolutely smashed' and had been fired by the Villa Park club.
The 42-year-old former England and Liverpool midfielder was cradling a baby in in one picture and with his arms around two men in another.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Bowring Park denied Gerrard had been drinking heavily as had been suggested on social media.
They wrote: 'All these pictures going around of Steven Gerrard out he was in our pub with his mates wasn't there for long at all just called in on his way passed to see a relative no drunk scenes or embarrassment just let the fella enjoy a bit of normality!'
In further replies, the account said: 'Credit to him very professional took time to speak to everyone not in the slightest way did he show what people are saying he was drunk and whatever else this is 100% was not the case we would of been first to confirm this.
'I'd understand if saying pressure ment [sic] about him getting slashed on a night out genuinely wasn't the case here had a few spoke about Liverpool Aston Villa his passion for both clubs and that was all quality man with an amazing attitude to the game.
'Can confirm he wasn't on anything no drugs [on] premises also had all the time in the world to hold the child on the photo and speak about many different things all what has been said is a lie just a catch up with his family and friends in a local nothing more.
'The photo of the child is our managers 6 week old child who asked Stevie if he could take a picture of him with the baby.'
Gerrard has come under intense pressure with Villa 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the relegation zone having won just one of their last seven matches.
Villa were beaten 2-0 at home by Chelsea on Sunday.
It came as Villa denied reports that former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino was being lined up as a potential replacement for Gerrard.
Villa's communications director Tommy Jordan took to Twitter on Monday night to rubbish claims Gerrard had already been dismissed by the club.
Jordan posted: 'How many times can you publish complete lies before people unfollow the account? Not sure why anyone actually follows this account. If you do, you shouldn't.'
Villa are in next in action on Thursday night, when they go away to Marco Silva's Fulham, before Brentford make the trip to the West Midlands on Sunday.
