Aston Villa have reportedly decided they are prepared to sell Philippe Coutinho during the January transfer window.
At the start of the year, Villa pulled off one of the most eye-catching additions of that period as they agreed a loan deal with Barcelona for the Brazil international.
Coutinho subsequently enjoyed a strong second half to the season, chipping in with five goals and three assists from 19 outings in the Premier League.
However, since Villa pushed through a permanent transfer for a fee in the region of £17m, the playmaker has come nowhere near to replicating his previous form.
In 640 minutes of football in all competitions during 2022-23, the 30-year-old has failed to contribute a single goal or assist.
Furthermore, Coutinho is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and it remains unclear when he will come back into contention under a new head coach in Unai Emery.
At a time when Emery wants to sign his own players, Football Insider claims that the decision has been made to try to sell Coutinho.
The report says that the player's representative Kia Joorabchian has been encouraged to find the former Liverpool star a new club before the end of next month.
Villa may have to be prepared to reach a compromise over a transfer fee due to the size of Coutinho's wages, making it unlikely that they will recoup the same amount that they shelled out as recently as May.
Much will also depend on where Coutinho sees the next phase of his career having already spent time in England, Spain, Italy and Germany.
Coutinho still has over four-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, something which may force Villa to consider loan proposals for his signature.
Since Emery's arrival in the West Midlands, Villa have been linked with several attacking players who are currently plying their trade in La Liga.
While a successful approach for Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix looks unlikely, Villa have also been credited with an interest in Nicolas Jackson, who plays for Emery's former club Villarreal.

Haha😘..quite excellent! Barca were tricked by the exploits of Coutinho when he was on loan at Bayern. They anticipated he culd lived up to expectation upon his return to Barca, but never worked!. Simply put, it's a 50-50 stuff...Some players flourishes upon moving on to other teams whilst others simply wouldn't work & let's say Coutinho's own never worked...lol
Totally agree

Yess thats true. But it wasn’t totally Barca’s fault. It was partly also Couthino’s fault to force a move to Barca. You see ... everyone knows when you go to barca you need to get used to the system of them. But is was also couthino’s dream to play for Barca.... unfortunately it was too much for him to adapt.... but he should’ve seen it coming ...... so it was both Barca and couthino’s fault but the blame is more on Barca cause they should’ve accepted the 50 million bid from Bayern when he was on lone .... but Barca wanted 60-70 mil .... in the end they just got 20.... that’s thanks to poor management

You see, that's one of the protagonist behind most talented players who end up failing miserably! A player does not inquire abt systems adopted by teams who show interest in their services...They usually get enthused by names of teams after their services & the terms involved...And Coutinho has been a victim👁...It's something that needs critical attention to..

Yess Barca broke couthino 😞. Couthino was NEVER a Barca type player. He’s a counter attack player. Barca played him in a position that he wasn’t used to. Forced him to get used of the Barca system and unfortunately he didn’t even know what do do anymore , he got lost in being forced in a system that wasn’t made for him...... it’s like buying mbappe and playing him as a CDM or CB

If Coutinho was in a declining spree, Barca wouldn't had shelled out such a hefty signing fee to Liverpool...He was ontop of his game by then.

oh no you got it wrong dude, Coutinho arrived at Barcelona in declining form. His last half season at Liverpool was not pressive at all. Salad and mane Sandwich firmino in a fiest attacking force at the time. Barca board and Scott didn't observe that at all.

The curse of demanding a trade. He never should have left Liverpool. Pogba is suffering from the same curse now too.
