Serge Aurier has opened up on his hugely costly actions during a live Periscope chat back in 2016 while playing for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG decided to suspend the Ivorian for six weeks after he took part in a social media video, in which he directed homophobic insults towards then manager Laurent Blanc and star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Aurier also insulted other members of the PSG squad at the time, and he has since publicly spoken out on the matter, claiming he massively regrets his actions because his family were on the wrong end of the backlash.

Speaking during an Instagram live session, the now Tottenham right back said: 'If I say that I regret it, it means that I did it on purpose. When you regret something, it is because you did it intentionally and you say to yourself: f*** why did I do that?

'On that day, that application, we didn't even know what it was. I did not imagine that anyone was watching. We were fooling around, we were young…'

'It was not the best period of my life. Today, you ask people who were there at the time, they would say that I was not going to get back up again. It was not something I did purposefully.

'I have regrets in relation to my family. My mother was not in the best state during this period. I was prepared, but my family was not ready to receive all this hate. I quit PSG (in 2017), because in my head it was no longer working.

'My family was not doing well. My mother could no longer go out in certain places without being heckled.'

During the online Q&A session four years ago, as well as aiming insults at Blanc and Ibrahimovic, he launched attacks at goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu and full back Gregory Van der Wiel.

One participant asked Aurier if his manager Blanc engages in oral sexual activity with Ibrahimovic, to which the Ivory Coast international replied: 'He takes everything'.

In the same video, Aurier goes on to describe his manager as 'une fiotte', which translates into English as a faggot - a pejorative term for a homosexual.

Aurier also proceeded to describe fellow team-mate Van der Wiel as 'wetter than wet' and when he was asked if he prefers German goalkeeper Kevin Trapp to the Italian Salvatore Sirigiu, the defender highlighted Trapp is the better option.

Aurier then claimed that Sirigu is 'guez', a colloquial term which would translate as 'useless' or 'finished'.

The controversy came just days before PSG's Champions League clash at home to Chelsea in February 2016, with the club's preparations having been thrown into disarray.

PSG straight away decided to suspend Aurier and he was told not to train with the squad following his actions, which led to him playing no part at the Parc des Princes against Chelsea.
