Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz hit an 82nd-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw against visitors Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium in their Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday.
The 19-year-old Wirtz, in top form since his return this year following a months-long injury break, fired in to cancel out Union's lead through Victor Boniface in the 51st.
The result left the tie open ahead of next week's return leg in Belgium but snapped Leverkusen's six-game winning run across all competitions.
Chances were few and far between in the first half of the quarter-final first leg between with both sides putting in strong defensive performances early on.
Lukas Hradecky in the Leverkusen goal was called into action twice and pulled out a pair of fine saves to keep the score level heading in for half time.
Union, in their maiden Europa League campaign, struck six minutes after the restart through Boniface, finding space on the left, cutting into the box and whipping a shot past Hradecky to put the visitors ahead.
The 22-year-old is now up to six goals in the Europa League so far this campaign and has 14 across all competitions.
Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen were in control for much of the second half but missed a golden chance to level when Jeremie Frimpong's header from four metres out sailed wide of the post in the 78th. Wirtz did it better five minutes later.
The 19-year-old drew the hosts level 10 minutes before full-time with a stunning curling effort into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.
Leverkusen and Union were both able to hold out for the rest of the game with the tie now level heading into the return leg in Belgium next Thursday.
Union have only lost once in the Europa League since the start of this campaign, against their namesakes Union Berlin in the final game of the group stages in November.
Leverkusen are still standing despite having only won three times since their entry into the competition after being eliminated from the Champions League.
