Lucas Hernandez will not be leaving Atletico Madrid this January despite Bayern Munich being willing to pay his €80m release clause, say reports.
L’Equipe say the versatile defender will remain at Los Rojiblancos for the remainder of the campaign in least, after Marca reported last month he would join Bayern midway through the season.
The 22-year-old only signed a new long-term contract with Los Colchoneros in June but had reportedly been swayed by the project on offer in Bavaria.
Lucas broke through for Atleti during the 2015-16 campaign and has gone on to make 106 appearances under Diego Simeone, winning a Europa League and European Super Cup.
Equally adept at left-back and centre-back, he was also part of the France team who won the World Cup in Russia last year.
Bayern, for their part, have plans of overhauling their first team after a poor start to the season and their lack of impact in the Champions League.

On Lucas Hernández: 'We've already had talks and there will be more to come. Getting him in the winter will be unrealistic.'

Bayern will try to close the operation for Lucas Hernández this month, although everything points out that a move wouldn't happen until the summer.

The player is definitely staying at Atlético until the summer, but it's quite possible that he would sign for Bayern for next season for less than €85m

Lucas Hernández wanted to join Bayern in winter. Bayern offered him a pay raise and promised him a starting spot. But now, a decision has been made that Lucas will definitely stay at Atlético till summer

still feel like 85m is crazy money for Hernandez,I'd have thought when Bayern finally splash the cash it would be for a bit more of an obvious game changer for them, but as I say you can see what they're going for and they do need to start their rebuild somewhere
