Betting: Maguire still odds-on to join Man Utd

The Leicester City defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and the bookmakers still believe that's his most likely destination

The long-running transfer saga involving Harry Maguire rumbles on.

Manchester United remain in pole position to bring the England international to Old Trafford this summer according to the latest odds, priced at 1/5 (1.20) with bet365.

The Red Devils reportedly had a bid of £70 million turned down, with Leicester looking for a fee in excess of the world record £75 million that Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk last summer.

Despite that initial rebuttal, United remain firm favourites to secure Maguire's signature before the transfer window closes.

It's unsurprising that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seeking further defensive reinforcements given his side conceded 54 times in the Premier League last term, a tally that meant the Red Devils ranked 11th defensively and was a contributing factor in a disappointing sixth-place finish.

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has insisted that his Foxes teammate hasn't been affected by the speculation.

The 26-year-old featured in pre-season games against Scunthorpe United and Cheltenham Town over the past week, and bet365 are 12/5 (3.40) on Maguire remaining at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester stood firm over the future of Riyad Mahrez in the face of interest from Manchester City and Roma before eventually sanctioning a move last July. Although United lead the betting for Maguire, another few months in the East Midlands shouldn’t be ruled out - especially if the clubs can’t come to an agreement over the proposed fee.

A move to the blue side of Manchester remains a possibility according to the bookmakers, albeit a slim one at 8/1 (9.0). The Premier League champions saw captain Vincent Kompany depart for Anderlecht at the end of last season were reportedly interested in bringing Maguire to the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens can offer Champions League football, something that their Manchester rivals are unable to do this season, but Leicester's price demands could prove problematic, especially with United also in the running and seemingly more willing to negotiate with the Foxes.

Liverpool (40/1), Tottenham (50/1) and Arsenal (66/1) are all quoted in the market but a move to another of those top six hopefuls seems even more unlikely than the odds suggest.
