Brentford are in talks with Emiliano Marcondes over a new contract.

The Bees have lost striker Ollie Watkins from their side that pushed for promotion last season while attacking midfielder Said Benrahma is on the verge of joining West Ham.

But they are hoping to tie down Marcondes, 25, who also played a big part last season as they went agonisingly close to reaching the Premier League, losing out in the Champions League play-off final against neighbours Fulham.

Marcondes made 25 appearances last season, featuring regularly for Thomas Frank's side in the second half of the season following his return from a loan spell at FC Midtjylland.

The Dane scored four times, including one in their play-off semi-final comeback against Swansea.

Marcondes's agent Antoni Alexandrakis said: 'We have been given an offer that we are considering. The negotiations are ongoing, but nothing has been signed yet, and we have a lot of inquiries.'

Marcondes joined Brentford from FC Nordsjaelland in January 2018 and the three-and-a-half year deal he signed is due to expire next summer.

Alexandrakis said: 'Emiliano's development lately has been very good. He showed his worth last season, so even though everything was not perfect in the first two seasons because of his injuries, he is now showing his talent, and that's why the club wants him to stay with a new contract. The fans love him, and he loves the club, so let's see, if we can find an agreement.'
