Brescia have officially been promoted to Serie A for the first time since 2010-11 thanks to players like Sandro Tonali and Alfredo Donnarumma.
This evening’s victory over Ascoli proved decisive, 1-0 thanks to a Daniele Dessena strike, as Palermo were held to a 2-2 draw by Spezia.
Alfredo Donnarumma (no relation to Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi) is on track to be the Serie B Capocannoniere with 25 goals.
Their Coach for the first three weeks of the campaign was David Suazo, but the former Cagliari striker was sacked and Eugenio Corini brought in.
President Massimo Cellino is back in the top flight too, having sold Cagliari and had a complex spell in England with Leeds United, but bought Brescia in 2017.
The Stadio Rigamonti club was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2015 and had been relegated, but restored after Parma went under that same summer, and just about avoided relegation to Serie C in 2016-17.
The Rondinelle were familiar faces in the Italian top flight with 22 Serie A seasons under their belts.
Brescia had launched the careers of Andrea Pirlo and Dario Hubner, while Roberto Baggio and Pep Guardiola played for Carlo Mazzone’s side at the start of the Century, taking them into the Intertoto Cup.
Lecce also could’ve secured promotion today with a win, but instead suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Padova.
