Brighton manager Graham Potter is the bookmakers' favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss

Graham Potter has emerged as the bookmakers' favourites to succeed Thomas Tuchel after the German was  axed by Chelsea.

The Blues confirmed they had relieved the German boss of his duties on Wednesday morning just hours after their 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

New owner Todd Boehly has wasted no time in binning the German coach just seven games into the season, and 100 days into his reign since replacing Roman Abramovich.

Now Bookmakers.co.uk claim Brighton boss Potter is the favourite to replace Tuchel, coming in with odds of 15/8.

Sportsmail understands Brighton boss Graham Potter is as an early leading contender, while out-of-work Mauricio Pochettino is also under consideration.

Former Tottenham boss Pochettino - who left Ligue 1 champions PSG in the summer - is also next in line with Bookmakers at 3/1.

The next three choices could cause some surprise, with Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl and under-fire Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers are also in contention at 6/1 and 12/1.

The Saints sit 12th in the table while the Foxes are bottom of the Premier League having lost all but one of their top-flight games so far this season.

Juventus boss Massimilano Allegri also comes in at the same odds as Rodgers, with the Serie A giants also seventh in the Italian league.

Chelsea are currently sixth in the Premier League table after the first six matches of the season.

'Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

'As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.'

Chelsea added that they will move 'swiftly' to appoint a new manager and Tuchel's coaching staff will take charge of the team in the interim.

Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2021 to replace Frank Lampard and hit the ground running by winning the Champions League in six months.

Last season Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, only to lose to Liverpool on both occasions. They also finished third in the Premier League.
