Leo Messi has scored fewer goals for Argentina than Cristiano Ronaldo with Portugal. But have Messi's 70 goals come against stronger opposition?
Recently a graph of Diario AS goes viral on the Internet, which shows Messi scored 56 goals against top-50 nations before his 70th goal against Uruguay, while 99-goal Ronaldo has only 28 goals.
We've also cited the stats in a previous article. But as far as we have discovered, based on current FIFA Rankings, it's NOT TRUE!

The question is how many times has each of them faced the strongest sides? To the best of my knowledge, Messi has faced Germany, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay more times than Ronaldo so this analysis is not objective. Besides, Messi has played more tournaments than Ronaldo whilst Argentina also boasts of superior quality players. At the end of the day, it is your achievements that count...and Ronaldo's achievements with his national team is superior to Messi's.

What you fail to realize is that Portugal is an European team so Ronaldo plays against more of those teams and Argentina is a South American team so Messi also play his more against them. Copa America is played every year or every 2 years while is Euros is played every 4 years.

Not to easy to score against National teams like La liga. This are all milestones of CR7. You need to see the goal ratio of CR7 in La liga, then compare him with Messi. CR7 is a complete player, obviously better than Messi. Everyone knows that finish with one touch is better than a dribble without goal. Only Dribble is not enough to win a match, you need a goal to win. In the football World you may easily find dribblers anywhere, but it is very hard to find who can do everything in field(Like CR7).

To all messi fans who say ronaldo is playing weaker teams at international level.. i agree with you.. but you have to agree that messi has been playing in a farmers league since childhood and ronaldo started in PL.. why you guys ignore this fact ? you all come with stats of messi against english teams but You fans cant accept that playing week in week out is difficult in PL. ronaldo in PL is equal to messi in argentina & ronaldo in internationals in equal to messi in la liga where he plays teams like getafe, girona etc.. thats my conclusion No Hate Respect Both

Cristiano Ronaldo stats for Portugal •168 games played •99 goals •Over 40 assists made •2 international trophies Ronaldo is the second leading scorer for most international goals with 99 he should have reached he's 100 milestone by now but I guess we would have to wait till next year...Messi might have scored more goals against stronger opponents than ronaldo did but still Ronaldo has the upper edge he's leading Messi by 29 goals and very soon Ronaldo would be scoring he's 100 goal and in no time he would break dele record and mark he's 110 goal and still counting because Ronaldo might even score a 120 before he retires

Media always heat the debate.. Which one is top 50 again.. Every goal counts. They all play in different continents, and we all know Europe has more nations than South Americans. These 2 players all deserve Praise. they're just amazing

i always knew CR7 is better than messi on international level... his performance outclass messi on international level... Messi can't take Argentina places like the way CR7 did for his country or like maradona did... i respect both plays and i think CR7 should win this ballon d'or, messi has won THE BEST award. it will be a shame to football if CR7 doesn't win an individual award this season honestly speaking...

For an instance lets agree with the point that Argentina is a stronger team. But how does it matter, Argentina plays against stronger teams and Portugal plays against much weaker teams. Tell me which is more challenging?
