It's incredibly rare for a professional footballer to carry on playing until the age of 43.

And it's perhaps even more unique for them to then go on to become so shredded that they claim to have a better physique than none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

But one former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star, who retired in 2017, has ditched the conventional footballer's body for one more akin to a bodybuilder.

The now-48-year-old, who once shared a dressing room with the likes of Ronaldo Nazario at Madrid, has been showing off his incredible toned torso and regularly posts photos to his 2.3m Instagram followers of his strict workout routines and healthy lifestyle.

The ex-pro has achieved greatness in the game with a seriously impressive trophy cabinet which includes titles across Europe and South America.

That player is Brazilian legend Ze Roberto - who made an astonishing 84 appearances for his country across 11 years.

Ze Roberto, who operated as a wing-back and a midfielder during his career, has since shed light on how he managed to achieve such a ripped physique, explaining that he no longer drinks and ensures he eats a healthy diet and gets regular sleep.

The Brazilian icon has left fans stunned by his motivational videos in which he proves it is possible to maintain a sculpted body despite hanging his boots up six years ago.

Ze Roberto is so impressed with his own work that he has even claimed to have a better physique than Cristiano Ronaldo - and challenged the former Man United star to play until the same age that he did.

'Today I would say that I have a better physique, because I played until I was 43-years-old,' he told TyC Sports.

'If he does, I will say it is him.'

There are several similarities that Ze Roberto and Ronaldo share beyond their ripped physiques.

Both of course played for Real Madrid, and while Ronaldo has just started playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr, Ze Roberto also enjoyed a spell in the Middle East, playing for Qatari side Al-Gharafa.

Ze Roberto won the Champions League and LaLiga early in his career with Madrid before winning four Bundesliga titles and four German Cups with Bayern Munich.

Although Ronaldo has not commented on when he may hang up his boots, you could imagine him playing into his 40s like Ze Roberto did.
