Marcus Thuram is set to leave Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer this summer amid interest from numerous Premier League clubs.

The 25-year-old will be out of contract in Germany this summer and is expected to leave the Bundesliga outfit without compensation, given the interest that he has attracted since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The forward made five appearances during the major tournament, as France finished as runners-up after losing to Argentina on penalties.

His performances for both his country and his club has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea among many others after teams failed in their attempts to capture his signature last month.

Thuram is currently enjoying the best goal-scoring spell of his career and has equalled his personal best of 11 league goals in a season after just 20 games.

His latest strike coming in his side's shock 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich on the weekend.

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has admitted that Thuram has rejected a contract offer from the club and is determined to move to a 'bigger club' after failing to get his move away during the January transfer window.

Virkus told German news outlet Sport1: 'With Marcus Thuram, we stretched. We've decided to allow Thuram to leave.

'The fact he will leave on a free is not a positive situation. I can't sugarcoat it. We have to accept that there are bigger clubs he might move to.'

Chelsea and Arsenal are expected to also face competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle who all also showed interest during the January transfer window.

The son of France World Cup winner Lilian Thuram is a graduate of Sochaux's academy and he made his debut for the Ligue 2 side in 2015 before making the move to Guingamp two years later.

After a further two seasons plying his trade at the Stade de Roudourou, the youngster made his way to Monchengladbach for £10.6million in 2019.

Thuram has refined his prowess in front of goal, hitting double figures in all competitions in three of his four seasons with the German club.

Thuram, who can play up front or from the left, has scored 42 goals in 124 matches for Monchengladbach.
