Classy Maguire takes time out of honeymoon to hold training for local kids

CLASSY Manchester United captain Harry Maguire took time out of his honeymoon to give local kids a training session.

The England defender ran through an impromptu workout with five youngsters in Scala on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, where he holidayed after marrying childhood sweetheart Fern Hawkins.

Maguire, 29, asked his hotel to arrange for use of the pitch for a training session and after running through his daily workout he spent time giving youngsters tips.

The ex-Leicester City defender, who stepped up to take a penalty in the Euro 2020 final last year against Italy, also ran a spot-kick session with the youngsters and saw one of his efforts saved.

Maguire had been on a romantic boat trip with his wife Fern, 27, but on return decided to run through the fitness session.

One onlooker said: “The hotel arranged for him to use the pitch for his pre-season training, but afterwards he was keen to run through a session with some local kids who recognised him.”

Maguire married Fern in a lavish wedding in France with England team-mates Jack Grealish and Jordan Pickford among guests.

After a disappointing last season he is aiming to be in peak form to impress new United boss Erik ten Hag, having now returned to training.

Maguire was joined on his first day back by some familiar faces including Phil Jones, Alex Telles and Scott McTominay.

Stars Bruno Fernandes and Fred also turned up ready for action alongside youngster James Garner, who has spent the last two years on loan at Nottingham Forest.

One arrival that will likely excite United fans more than any other is Tyrell Malacia, who is at Carrington to finalise his move to Old Trafford.

The defender is close to becoming Ten Hag's first United signing in a £13m move.

United fans will also be intrigued by Cristiano Ronaldo's absence just days after the Portuguese told the club he wants to leave.

Ronaldo was set to hold showdown talks with Ten Hag today in what was scheduled to be his first day back at the club after a summer break.

But SunSport understands he is absent due to family reasons, and United have accepted his explanation.
