Crystal Palace head of coaching David Muir has quit the club after being accused of making a racial slur.
The senior member of the Eagles' technical staff tendered his resignation earlier this month following an internal investigation.
Palace — recognised as one of the most multi-racial clubs in the country — accepted Muir's resignation.
Muir, it is understood, attended an FA coaching course in February, after which a number of the attendees visited a bar.
It is claimed that, after a disagreement, Muir aimed an abhorrent racially motivated remark at someone in the bar. Sportsmail are aware of the comment Muir is alleged to have made.
An official complaint was lodged by the victim to Crystal Palace, who opened an investigation. As part of Palace's probe, the victim's version of events was verified by someone who also heard the insult.
When contacted by Sportsmail, a Crystal Palace spokesman said: 'David Muir has resigned from his position as head of coaching at Crystal Palace football club.'
Crystal Palace's south London location makes it one of the most multi-cultural clubs in England.
The club's multi-racial catchment area — for academy recruits and supporters — as well as the community projects they undertake, amplify the importance of Palace's investigation.
Muir has been at the club for over 10 years, holding his role as head of coaching since 2013. He had previously been operations manager and assistant academy manager.
