The two could never live without each other. Barcelona and Real Madrid simultaneously feed off each other and are damaged by the other’s success. As much as on the pitch, the pair enjoy jousting off it.
With El Clasico less than two weeks away, the games have already begun. In his press conference ahead of their Champions League tie with Inter, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez explained that for him, it was one of the most injust competitions – the best team does not always win.
That was in reference to Barcelona’s performance at Bayern Munich, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Blaugrana. It did not stop Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal responding to the comments though. Sport covered his words.
“Football is results. And the one who scores the most goals and concedes the least wins.”
“When you have won five of the last nine Champions Leagues, luck doesn’t really come into it.”
As Carvajal fleshed out his point, he did raise an interesting point.
“I find it funny that the debate of just and unjust only appears when Real Madrid win the Champions League and not when other clubs win it.”
“Opinions are subjective and everyone has their own. It is difficult to speak about what is just and what is not, but in recent years, we have been the best. Between the four or five teams that are favourites for the title, Madrid are always there. I don’t think that when somebody faces us, they do not see a possible future champion.”
It speaks to a wider debate and a subjective one, as Carvajal says, about what constitutes being the better side. For Carvajal, it only comes down to results.

If it's only once it could be by luck or maybe twice or even thrice, but how can it be by luck if it happens to win for five times

Xavi in 2018: "There are midfielders like Casemiro who don't understand how to play for Barcelona." ........... Casemiro: "He can say whatever he wants, but I've been here for 4 years and played in 4 Champions League finals." 🔥

Most of Real Madrid players talk like coaches and that is why they are the best team, it goes more than just you are a good player in that group, i think character matters a lot for them.

Being a Real Madrid player is really though, when you are the champions you still get criticized for the way you have done things and won titles, how ever the method has been there will allways be haters tryna ruin your moments🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Hala Madrid, we fans are allways there for our legends

Why are some people indifferent? I once said it and I'm saying it again. Which team in this world has ever won the champions league five times in five finals and five times in nine years. It's only Madrid. Yet, people call it luck or not the best teams always win. Madrid won the champions league in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022, yet, Madrid isn't the best team. Prior to these records if Madrid isn'tv best team, then, which else is the best? Please, someone should tell us the best team. Madrid has won it 14 times. The second has won it 7 times. How many times have Barca and Liverpool won. The two together is less than what Madrid has won. So what is Xavi saying? What people should realise is that being the best doesn't mean you cannot lose matches. Luck doesn't play football. The best team always win, period.

even pep won't agree with you, real Madrid in both legs of that tie never gave up, first leg we tried to reduce the score line by one goal and the odds where also not against Madrid with the fact that the game was played in England, second leg came man city got ahead in the second half, even with that Madrid didn't shake but still went on playing because they knew the final whistle hasn't been blown, and their hard work was repaid with the score been 1-1 and man city still on the winning end, and with less than 3-4 minutes to go, now the Santiago was loud no Madrid fan in that stadium was seating everyone knew that the magic has begun, with less than 4 minutes left man city could have defended with their whole soul but no they didn't, they let Madrid comfy in SPAIN. like which club in their right mind let Madrid feels comfy and knowing how they made it to that semis. and then came the 2nd goal to draw them on level terms. at this stage now man city wanted the world to end. extra time came forth, a new game has begun, mentality has been crushed, energy level has gone down for both team, but Madrid got the determination to overcome such which most club now don't and won't have. for me that semi final, man city already lost the tie in England, it's was never down to luck. madrid destroyed their hope, and that is what the king of Europe does best.
