The referee at the centre of the the VAR controversy in Saturday's Merseyside derby will only be on fourth official duties in the Premier League this weekend.
David Coote, the official overseeing proceedings at Stockley Park for Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Everton, has been taken out of the limelight after failing to check for a red card for Jordan Pickford.
The England goalkeeper inflicted a season-ending knee injury on Virgil van Dijk with a horror challenge in the first half at Goodison Park, but Coote forgot the rules stating he could review the incident despite the offside in the build-up.
Instead of on refereeing or VAR duties, Coote will be the fourth official for West Ham's clash with Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.
It is the first time this season that Coote will be on the touchline instead of in charge on the pitch or in Stockley Park.
Sportsmail revealed on Monday that Coote thought that the offside against van Dijk on Saturday — which he checked forensically — nullified what happened afterwards.
Liverpool have been left furious that Pickford went unpunished and are demanding urgent clarification on the PGMOL's handling of the incident.
Senior sources at Anfield claim the Premier League are more interested in briefing their version of events — which they also allege keeps changing — than talking with the club.
Liverpool insiders say they were told on Saturday that Coote was 'too distracted' by the offside check and therefore did not look at the possible red card for Pickford.
PGMOL boss Mike Riley then spoke to the club on Sunday, claiming that the match officials did review the challenge and deemed it not to be a red.

On the third matchweek of the season he was back in Stockley Park for Manchester City's stunning home defeat against Leicester.
In the final matchweek before the recent international break he refereed Newcastle's home win over Burnley and was then fourth official for Aston Villa's shock 7-2 defeat of Liverpool.
