Such a wasted talent, as a youngster back then he was my favourite player by a country mile and would have gone on to play for England regularly in my opinion!

I thought he was older than 22 when he had to stop playing, he always looked older. Pity for the fella. I wonder why he didn't try to stay involved in football, maybe in a coaching capacity or something. Maybe he wasn't strong enough mentally to watch others, or coaching others when he still felt he should be doing a job on the pitch. Who tackled/injured him during England training?

Comes across as a really pleasant bloke. Must be tormenting for him. This sort of upset can lead to depression, really hope he stays well mentally........to lose a promising career is so heartbreaking........hope he got/gets support from the PFA....... One of the better, more measured pundits.

He was a lethal finisher. If he could have steered clear of injuries I honestly think Man U, Chelsea or another of the big four would have come in for him. He was that good.

His goals record speaks for itself. He was going to be a hero at West Ham...and then you see Andy Carroll. There really is no justice is there!

Always remember the impact he had at Norwich in the second half of their 2004/05 Premier league season. Excellent player and a real shame his career was cut short.
