Atletico Madrid have announced that Diego Costa's operation on his left foot was a success.
The striker travelled to Brazil to undergo surgery and the procedure has been carried out without any hiccups.
"Diego Costa underwent an operation on his left foot in Brazil on Wednesday," the club stated on their website.
"The operation has been a success and everything has gone according to plan.
"The intervention consisted in the removal of the osteosynthesis material of the V metatarsal that our player underwent 12 years ago and in repairing the short peroneal tendon."
No date has been given by the club for his expected return.

I really hope you are wrong, Diego is one of my favourite recent Atleti players and I had such big hopes when he returned... I still believe in him though. He has scored against R.Madrid and Barcelona this season, and I think he'll step up in the CL-knockouts when the big games come around. He just needs to get his confidence back
