Disallowed Messi's goal... 12 worst ever refereeing errors in LaLiga history

All football action has been called off and has brought to a halt the continuous controversy over referee decisions.

The match officials have made several significant errors over the last few decades both in Spain and across Europe.

Let's see together the 12 worst ever refereeing mistakes in LaLiga Santander's recent history.

1. Tenerife prevent Real Madrid from winning LaLiga twice

Real Madrid missed out on two league titles after failing to beat Tenerife in the last game of the season. Referees Celino Gracia and Raul Garcia de Loza recognised and apologised for their mistakes after the games.

A Cesar Gomez handball that wasn't given, along with two penalties on Ivan Zamorano and a Fernando Hierro disallowed goal are still living on in the memories of Real Madrid fans.

2. Juanfran's dives at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

Juanfran was shown two yellow cards for a couple of dives in Osasuna's game against Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Instead of being awarded with two clear penalties, he was sent off.

3. A disallowed Messi goal helped Atletico to LaLiga success

Atletico Madrid won the 2013/14 LaLiga title after clinching a 1-1 draw against title contenders Barcelona.

In that game at the Camp Nou, a Lionel Messi goal was mistakenly disallowed as the Argentine received the ball from an opponent in the build-up.

4. Sergi's handball that was never given

In a derby between Real Madrid and Barcelona in 1999/2000, Sergi cleared the ball off the line with his hand, but the referee didn't see anything.

7. The infamous Guruceta penalty in the Copa del Generalisimo

Still remembered as one of the biggest scandals in the history of Spanish football.

Barcelona faced Real Madrid in the Copa del Generalisimo and aspired to overturn the first leg's 2-0 deficit.
