All football action has been called off and has brought to a halt the continuous controversy over referee decisions.
The match officials have made several significant errors over the last few decades both in Spain and across Europe.
Let's see together the 12 worst ever refereeing mistakes in LaLiga Santander's recent history.
1. Tenerife prevent Real Madrid from winning LaLiga twice
Real Madrid missed out on two league titles after failing to beat Tenerife in the last game of the season. Referees Celino Gracia and Raul Garcia de Loza recognised and apologised for their mistakes after the games.
A Cesar Gomez handball that wasn't given, along with two penalties on Ivan Zamorano and a Fernando Hierro disallowed goal are still living on in the memories of Real Madrid fans.
2. Juanfran's dives at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
Juanfran was shown two yellow cards for a couple of dives in Osasuna's game against Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Instead of being awarded with two clear penalties, he was sent off.
3. A disallowed Messi goal helped Atletico to LaLiga success
Atletico Madrid won the 2013/14 LaLiga title after clinching a 1-1 draw against title contenders Barcelona.
In that game at the Camp Nou, a Lionel Messi goal was mistakenly disallowed as the Argentine received the ball from an opponent in the build-up.
4. Sergi's handball that was never given
In a derby between Real Madrid and Barcelona in 1999/2000, Sergi cleared the ball off the line with his hand, but the referee didn't see anything.
No penalty was given and no red card was shown to the Blaugrana player.
5. A throw in that shouldn't have been taken
In the 93rd minute of Valencia's home game against Real Valladolid and with the score at 1-1, Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez rightly awarded the visitors a throw in.
However, Los Che were the ones to take the throw in rapidly and net a late winning goal
6. Rivaldo's disallowed goal in the 90th minute of a Clasico
With the score at 2-2 in last minutes of the Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in 2000/01, Rivaldo netted a winner but his goal was wrongly disallowed by the referee Xabier Losantos Omar.
7. The infamous Guruceta penalty in the Copa del Generalisimo
Still remembered as one of the biggest scandals in the history of Spanish football.
Barcelona faced Real Madrid in the Copa del Generalisimo and aspired to overturn the first leg's 2-0 deficit.
However, the referee Jose Emilio Guruceta awarded the visitors a penalty for a foul that took place outside the box.
8. Marchena's judoka penalty on Raul
In a game between Real Madrid and Valencia, Raul was awarded a dubious penalty after Carlos Marchena's light challenge in the box.
9. Real Madrid's three wrongly disallowed goals at the Calderon
The current VAR director Carlos Clos Gomez mistakenly disallowed as many as three Real Madrid goals in a derby against Atletico Madrid.
10. Aduriz's penalty kick came from his own hand
Athletic Club were awarded a penalty kick for a handball against Real Sociedad, although the ball came off Aritz Aduriz's hand.
11. The day Espanyol almost clinched Champions League qualification
In the penultimate matchday of the 2004/5 season, referee Eduardo Iturralde disallowed a Toni Velamazan that could have helped Espanyol grab a win against Osasuna and secure Champions League qualification for the next season.
12. Perea's only goal for Atletico that didn't count
Luis Amaranto Perea played 314 games for Atletico Madrid and scored a single time in derby against Real Madrid.
However, the referee of the game Arturo Dauden wrongly disallowed his goal.
