Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer is close to signing for Villarreal.
The Spain international asked to depart the Bundesliga side after Erling Haaland's arrival at the end of December.
A return to Valencia could have been an option for Alcacer, but Rodrigo Moreno's move to Barcelona didn't come to fruition so there was no free spot in attack.
Meanwhile, Karl Toko Ekambi joined Lyon in the January transfer window and the Yellow Submarine immediately sought a forward to fill his boots.
As the 2020 European Championship approaches, Alcacer wants to get playing time to be fit for the summer and to be included in Luis Enrique's squad list for the tournament.
Villarreal are in pursuit of European qualification for next season and the potential acquisition of Alcacer will strengthen their attack significantly.
