Edu's daughter's DMs full of abuse as angry fans turn on Arsenal transfer chief

The daughter of Arsenal's technical director Edu Gaspar has revealed she has been inundated with abusive messages from angry supporters following the club's dreadful start to the season.

Edu is in charge of Arsenal's transfers, both in and out of the club, and the Gunners have spent £150m on new players this summer with Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga all arriving.

But back-to-back 2-0 defets against Brentford and Chelsea has put increasing pressure on the Brazilian. One fan shouted abuse at Edu and his family as they watched the game with Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday.

While Edu ignored the angry outburst, Edu's wife, Paula Gaspar, stuck her middle finger up at the supporter.

Now, Edu's daughter, Maria Gaspar, has revealed she has inundated with abusive messages on social media and took to Instagram to plead with fans to be kinder.

'Look at everything my father was won, look at everything that he's done,' she wrote on her Instagram story.

'I know about his potential. I'm not here to talk about that. But sometimes, reading this stuff, it hurts a lot.

'But we have to get used to this life, right. In life there are ups and downs.

'My father has been on this life for a while, from criticism to praise, he's used to it but I am not. It hurts a lot, but we will learn [to get used to it].

'Everyday, I used to answer people on DMs, and some have asked why I stopped doing so.

'I can't open my DM's anymore because it's full of abuse, I don't have a lot of patience.

'My head is not right at the moment to explain why they're abusing my father.'

Edu and his family are not the only ones in the firing line. Arsenal's players were booed off the pitch at half-time and full-time against Chelsea, with a group of supporters surrounding Arteta's car after the defeat.

Footage captured a group of frustrated fans standing around the manager's vehicle with some heard shouting at him to 'leave the club'.

The group of men were also heard saying: 'Arteta, do yourself a favour and leave the club' before security guards escorted them away from the vehicle.

Arteta, who was sat inside the silver car, did not respond to the fans' line of questioning and instead used his horn to try and persuade them to move.

The manager had bizarrely praised supporters in his post-match interview, despite the loud boos which rung out at full-time.

'I must thank the fans, even when things were looking difficult they tried to give the players a boost,' he said.

'I see a lot of positives with the crowd and the team today.

'At the end I didn't see any bad reaction with any of the players. But that is my opinion.

'Feeling sorry for yourself does not help.

'You have to face the challenge, face the criticism - because it will come.'
