Egypt goalkeeper Gabaski reveals Mohamed Salah's advice on his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane

Egyptian goalkeeper Gabaski has revealed the advice Mohamed Salah gave him about his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane ahead of his penalty in the first-half of the AFCON final.

Senegal were given a penalty just six minutes into the game when Saliou Ciss was bought down by Mohamed Abdelmonem's rash challenge.

Forward Mane stepped up with a golden opportunity to give his side an early lead, but saw his effort denied by Gabaski.

Mane, however, saw Salah having words with Gabaski prior to his spot kick and instructed the goalkeeper to get back on his line.

The goalkeeper revealed: 'Salah told me: "Mane would shoot to the right side, he is coming now because he knows what I am saying." 'Mane said to me: "I will shoot on the left," then Salah replied: 'Let's see.'

The 33-year-old couldn't reproduce his full heroics again in the shootout, however, as Senegal clinched the trophy with the former Southampton ace finding the net with the winning effort.

Egyptian shot-stopper Gabal had already helped his side win shootouts against Ivory Coast in the last 16 and Cameroon in the semi-finals.

And he was well prepared for the final, arriving with notes on his water bottle of where each Senegal player had placed their previous penalties.

The bottle, which had small images of where each player liked to put their spot kicks, was strategically placed under Gabaski's towel.

He consulted it before facing each penalty - but could only save one as Egypt were beaten 4-3 in the shootout.
