'England didn't really want to play': Kimmich hits out at Southgate's tactics

Germany's Joshua Kimmich has slammed England's tactics following the 3-3 thriller between the two sides at Wembley.

The Bayern Munich defender hit out at the way Gareth Southgate set up his side and was also frustrated with how his team performed after going 2-0 up on Monday night.

Germany took the lead when Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring from the spot and Kai Havertz's curling effort doubled the visitors' advantage with just 23 minutes left on the clock.

However, England went on to turn the game on it's head and took a 3-2 lead before a Nick Pope error allowed Germany to rescue a draw.

Kimmich believes England should never have been allowed to be in that position.

'We had the game under control and were 2-0 up,' the 27-year-old said.

'After the 2-0 we become too passive and weren't brave enough against the ball.'

Following Gareth Southgate's introductions of Bukayo Saka and Mason Mount, England seized control of the game as they scored three goals in just 12 minutes.

But Kimmich claimed the Three Lions were undeserving of a point.

'England just played on the counterattack... it's actually inexplicable because England didn't really want to play,' he said.

'That shouldn't happen in the second half, because we completely gave the game away.'

Like England, Germany will now go to Qatar without a win from this international break. Germany are in Group E at the World Cup along with Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.
