UEFA are now set to investigate gestures Jude Bellingham allegedly made after scoring his dramatic equaliser against Slovakia on Sunday night.
A UEFA spokesperson said: ‘Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English FA player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.’
If Bellingham is found to have breached Article 57 of the FIFA disciplinary code, he could face a ban and a hefty fine. It reads: "Anyone who insults someone in any way, especially by using offensive gestures or language, or who violates the principles of fair pay or whose behaviour is unsporting in any other way may be subject to sanctions in accordance with art. 10 ff."
UEFA have also meanwhile, opened disciplinary proceedings against the Three Lions for the lighting of fireworks and crowd disturbances in Gelsenkirchen.
A UEFA spokesperson told Mirror Football : "Following the review of the officials reports for ENG-SVK match, disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the English Football Association for lighting of fireworks and crowd disturbances. The CEDB will take a decision on this case in due course. No further proceedings were opened from this match."
Bellingham denied any wrongdoing on social media platform X on Sunday evening, writing in response to a viral clip of his gesture: "An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight."
Back in 2019, Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone was forced to issue an apology after making a similar gesture following a Champions League knockout tie with Juventus.
The move was later mocked by Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted a hat-trick to turn the tie around during the second leg in Turin, and the Portuguese superstar later received a whopping fine worth a reported €20,000 for 'improper conduct' - imposed by UEFA.
Meanwhile, Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona took no issue with Declan Rice, who will escape punishment, following their heated verbal exchange after the full-time whistle.
The pair had to be separated after Calzoni approached Turkish referee Umut Meler and something appeared to rile midfielder Rice, who was held back by team-mates.
Calzona later explained: “Rice was supposed to go to the referees and say goodbye and then leave. I had to speak to the referees and he was carrying on, continuing to speak. Then he apologised and it all ended there.”
Expert lip-readers have since claimed Rice allegedly said several expletives and also mocked Calzona's baldness.
Hero Bellingham said after his stunning, clutch over-head kick saved the day: “You’re 30 seconds from going home and having to listen to all the rubbish and feeling like you’ve let people down.
“Playing for England should be the most proud moment of your career but often it’s quite difficult. There’s a really high intense pressure. The fans expect a lot from us regardless of what happened in recent tournaments years and years ago."

Does Germany deserves to win with the players they have. Biggest joke.
Germany does deserve it because Germany and Spain are the best team in terms of performance in the Euros. I bet you just saw Germany lineup and came to argue here

UFEA is ruled by Kaiser. Jude is the main man for England. What is wrong with that gesture. Did he show to the fans or Slovak bench. It clearly shows UFEA do not want England to win the tournament. What happens when referees and VAR make clear blunders are they charged???!?!!.

I love bells so much but that was dum of him…what was e thinking? History tells you that enemies will find every lame excuse to pull you down..ask ronaldo juve vs atletico.,,.the same ballsy gesture Simeone made with no ban or noise made against ‘em in the first leg…cr7 did same in the second leg & what happened…lot of imbeciles started moaning until he was fined. J.Bells! You are so young be wise…am a die hard cr7 fan but one great thing lionel possess through out his career so far till date…not a single scandal…learn from that boy…#HALAMADRID%CR7RULES

Sometimes i wonder why some footballers will decide to do things that will cause them unnecessarily issues. You've won the match so why not celebrate with your team mates and fans then leave the field in peace? 🤦
