Eriksen reveals how he upset Ronaldo when they were Man United team-mates

Christian Eriksen has joked about why Cristiano Ronaldo didn't get along with him during their brief overlap at Manchester United.

The Dane joined the Red Devils last summer, and spent the first few months as Ronaldo's teammate, before the Portuguese star's infamous exit from the club following the Piers Morgan incident.

In a free-kick masterclass for the Manchester United website, Eriksen, 31, has explained why Ronaldo and him clashed during their crossover at the beginning of the season - because the Danish midfielder took a set-piece ahead of him.

Eriksen told former Man United midfielder Owen Hargreaves: 'Even now at the club we have multiple takers who, if he's had a good day, he's going to have it.'

He put himself in that club, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and - before his exit - Cristiano Ronaldo.

Eriksen added: 'I did take one [instead of Ronaldo], I think, but he wasn't too happy with that!

'But then with the three we have now, it's where we are on the pitch, how people are feeling, so it's like 'you had the last one, I'll have the next one'.'

Eriksen's work in Erik ten Hag's midfield engine room has helped to propel Manchester United back into the Champions League season in his first year at the club.

The Dane said that early on in his time at Manchester United, he built a good connection with Fernandes and Casemiro in the centre of the park, which has helped them finish in the top four, and win the Carabao Cup final.

He said: 'I think from day one we connected really quick. We have three different players but three guys who are not scared of taking the ball and trying to create something.'

Ten Hag's side conclude their Premier League campaign with the home fixture against Fulham, before attention turns to the Manchester derby in next weekend's FA Cup final.
