Many fans were left baffled by the new Champions League format as they labelled it 'confusing'.
The inaugural league phase draw took place in Monaco on Thursday, with the traditional group stage being replaced.
Teams were placed in four pots according to seeding, with each club facing two teams from one pot.
There are more matches for each team, with each club playing four games at home and four away.
After each team was manually drawn, automated software determined their opponents.
Some fans struggled to understand the draw, with one writing: 'Wtf is this new format there was legit nothing wrong with the previous format'.
Meanwhile, another wrote: 'someone explain the new format to me like im 5 pls'.
Another fan described the format as 'too confusing'. They wrote: 'this new format is too confusing i feel overwhelmed'.
In addition, another declared: 'This new Champions League format is the most confusing BS I’ve ever seen'.
However, there was some support for the new format, with one fan noting that there will be more high-profile matchups from the start of the competition.
They wrote: 'The new #UCLdraw format is fire. There are so many classic pairings from the start. Top stuff.'
Another added: 'This new format for champions league is actually good for the fans'.

The idea of bringing more high profile matches is welcome, each team will play against 7 champions league teams, BUT the freaking idea of playing single legs is BS. By virtue of being a league, group phase matches have to be played in 2 legs, home and away, to balance it out. The Barcelona/Bayern, Real Madrid/Liverpool games will turn out to decide group winner, and the one who plays such games at home will be at an advantage. No one wants to play RM at BB, Inter at San Siro, City at Etihad and Bayern At AA, yet in the same group half the teams will and and the other will not, then still treat the results with the same measure. That is not never fair in football. Its like this idea of having more than 1/2 nations host World Cup/Copa etc, thts BS in football. You cant give such important home advantage to more than 4/5 teams, no way, because every goal counts, every point counts. #SaveFootball#

normally one would like to make changes when one finds something fundamental wrong with a certain status quo. But this is not the case. In fact there's every reason to believe that the old system is still flawless, so why change it in the first place when the new dispensation is problematic and confusing to say the least.
