Football fans have been left shocked after seeing former Fulham star Aboubakar Kamara labelled as 'AK-47' in Mauritiana's line-up for an AFCON game.
Mauritiana released their teamsheet ahead of their first game of the tournament against Burkina Faso on Tuesday but it was Kamara's nickname included on the list that caused a stir.
Karama - who played for Fulham between 2017 and 2021 - was picked to start the game as the captain of the team, but while other players were named by their last name he was dubbed 'AK-47' alongside his shirt number of 27.
Some supporters could believe what they had seen when the team news popped up on their timelines on X.
One wrote: 'HIS NAME IS WHAT?!' followed by a shocked emoji.
Another said: 'Theres no way there’s a player actually going by AK-47.'
'I’m crying look at number 27’s name,' read another post.
One fan claimed Kamara was 'one of the worst' players he had seen feature in the English top flight and said he was shocked he was therefore being compared to the powerful automatic assault rifle.
'Kamara has case for being the worst footballer I’ve ever seen in the PL and they’re calling him AK47 can’t believe my eyes,' the post said.
The forward - now 28 and plying his trade with Al-Jazira in Abu Dhabi - ended up playing just 28 minutes of the game after picking up an injury.
Mauritiania would go on to lose the game 1-0, thanks to a stoppage time strike by Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore, who is on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir this season.
Kamara has made a total of 14 appearances for his country, scoring seven goals - having picked up his first cap in 2021.
He began his career with Monaco in Ligue 1, making just two appearances before moving to Kortrijk in the Belgian Pro League and then moving to French outfit Amiens.
He then got his big break in English football with Fulham, who signed him for just over £5million in 2017.
