Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has been charged with allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in Australia.
The 45-year-old, who also represented Manchester City and Newcastle, was arrested after allegedly pushing the woman during an extended holiday in Sydney.
Police were called to a Randwick home in Sydney's east at 2.15am on Friday after receiving a call regarding a domestic incident.
Hamann, who represented Germany 59 times, was arrested and subsequently charged with common assault.
Police said the woman was not injured but took out an apprehended violence order (AVO) to protect her.
Yet, Hamann is said to have violated this order by calling the woman and was then arrested again.
Earlier today, Hamann was granted bail after a short hearing at the Parramatta Bail Court but had to hand over his passport.
He will be back in court on Thursday when his lawyer says they will contest the charge.

well what the world has gone to a woman call police on you, saying u shoved her without a mark or scar on ur body wow and u get locked up and then calling her trying to make up back things u get lock up again lol dwl seems like judicial system can start run our home for us anything occurs we cannot deal with our homes like a man anymore; mark my word I never support abusing a woman at no time but some matters shouldn't come public in our home where it's a simple family matter just my fair opinion

Why not highlight the Liverpool FC connection in the title. If it was Everton it would be in CAPS.

He should come back to this country, and join the Conservative and Unionist Party.

I met him on the day we played Germany in the 2010 World Cup. I told him we were going to win and he laughed in my face. Germany won 4-1.
