After a brief managerial role at Santa Tecla in El Salvador, the 42-year-old striker is back in action again after signing for the Uruguayan club.
Sebastián Abreu, commonly known as El Loco, has broken his own Guinness-recognised world record after signing for Boston River in his native Uruguay, the 29th professional club the 42-year-old striker has represented.
The former Uruguay international, who scored the winning penalty in his country’s controversial defeat of Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, had a brief stint in the dugout with Santa Tecla, winning the Copa El Salvador during his time there, but the lure of the pitch has proven too strong to resist and he will now strap his boots on again for the Uruguayan Primera División side.
The previous holder of the record was retired German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel, who played for 25 teams over the course of his career, and it seems unlikely that Abreu’s mark will ever be beaten.
The complete list of Abreu’s clubs:
Defensor Sporting, San Lorenzo de Almagro, Deportivo La Coruña, Gremio, Tecos, Nacional, Cruz Azul, América, Dorados de Sinaloa, Monterrey, San Luis, Tigres, River Plate, Real Sociedad, Aris Salónica, Botafogo, Figueirense, Rosario Central, Aucas, Sol de América, Santa Tecla, Bangu, Central Español, Puerto Montt, Audax Italiano, Deportes Magallanes y Rio Branco.

There's probably a reason why he has played for 26 different clubs in his 23 year career.

Damn, how the hell is this guy still playing? I remember him from Depor way back in the day and a short spell at - I think - La Real. Mostly remember him because of that hair, because he didn't really do very well.

I've heard a great story about his panenka in the WC2010 quarter finals against Ghana. He was with his back to the goal the whole time, he's really supersticious (wears a really old t-shirt with pictures of his family everytime he plays), and as his team mates were shooting their penalties, he was constantly asking Jorge Fucile if the keeper was diving. Fucile said yes and eventually gave him permission to score a panenka (he already scored more than 25 in his career).

This is the shirt you mentioned and this is him telling that story from the shootout and Fucile (in Spanish, naturally).

Wow! He's been passed around a lot and that tells he might not have been a very good striker. However, I applaud his resilience and moreover, he cares less about age but only want to keep playing.

Whiles others players are fighting for 29 trophies others are fighting for joining 29 teams
