Galliani insists he can’t understand those who are against a stadium

Former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has his favourite for the new San Siro and “can’t understand those who are against a stadium.”

The current Monza director spent over 30 years in charge of the Rossoneri and was at today’s presentation of the two final design concepts for the joint Inter and Milan arena.

“It will be the fourth San Siro: there was one in 1926, another from 1957, a third from 1990 and we hope soon there will be a fourth iteration of the stadium at San Siro,” Galliani told MilanNews.it.

Once the new structure is built, the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will be torn down.

“I don’t see the idea as being unromantic. A city like Milan cannot just give up on an investment worth €1.2bn. I am totally in favour and can’t understand those who are against a stadium.

“This is the path forward.”

Galliani has a very clear preference between the two design concepts, presented by Populous and Manica.

“Populous seems more reminiscent of the city of Milan. The other one is lovely, but looks very similar to other wonderful stadiums already around the world. The Populous design is an original project.”

The version put forward by Populous would have a series of slats rather than a curved surface, based on the iconic Duomo cathedral.
