The Arsenal attacker has hit out at the treatment he received from the German football association (DFB), confirming he will no longer wear the jersey
Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he is retiring from international football with immediate effect following the "treatment he received from the DFB."
The Arsenal attacker claims that the way he has been treated by the German football association makes him "no longer want to wear the German national team shirt" and he has had enough of being "disrespected" and used for "political propaganda".
Ozil announced the decision in the third part of a lengthy statement released on his Twitter account, with the first part explaining the reasoning behind his controversial photograph with Turkey president Recep Erdogan and the second update criticising how the media and sponsors reacted to the incident.
The way Ozil has been treated by German media, politicians and especially the DFB has caused him to make the "difficult decision" to announce his international retirement, saying that: "I now feel unwanted and think that what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten."
In those nine years, Ozil has played 92 times for his country, scoring 23 times. He was part of the side that lifted the 2014 World Cup and also helped Germany to the semi-finals of the 2012 and 2016 European Championships.
Ozil also went with Germany to the 2010 and 2018 World Cups and was named national team player of the year five times.

everyone is blaming ozil when the team is under performing and now the German FA has done same. Its good he has taking this decision so he can solely concentrate on his football career. #m10 we at arsenal welcomes your decision. [Comeon][Comeon]

German media treated him very badly after the world cup.It was not his problem that he has a Turkish ancestry. He was with team when the German Team won all the games. He was also included in 2014 World Cup winning team.Don't forget those things. He is one of the best Midfielders in the world. If this happens then German team will face many problems in the coming days due to German Medias.I repeat Ozil is one of the best.

Well done my brother for taking that bold decision to quit. These Germans are very racist n disrespectful to other nationals. They forgot so quickly 2010, 2014, 2016 n now 2018. They will continue to see u shine like the brightest star in the sky. May Allah SWT continue to guide n protect u. Ameen.

in my native language (swahili), there's a saying that goes "Tenda Wema uende zako" ππ Meaning, Do what is right and leave. don't wait for thanks. Human beings are never pleased enough no matter how good one can be to them. Disgraceful DFB ππ π§

So they used him while he was at the peak of his career. He gave them everything and won the world cup for them. They never questioned his allegiance then and when they gave him the best german players numerous times. And now that they failed in the worldcup, they wanna blame him. I dont think that these media and the German football association won't represent the views of the fans.

Mesut Ozil is the best player any football team can get, Germany is very fortunate to have him as theur midflieder. It is not his fault that he belongs to a different ancestry and that he is a migrant. Win and loss are the two sides of life. No one should blame someone for losing, football is a team game not a individual event. Wins and losses are both responsibility of the whole team. Mesut Ozil is the best and will always be! I support Mesut's decision.
