Getafe 'to exercise option' for Cucurella and beat EPL clubs to Barca full-back

Getafe are set to complete the permanent signing of Barcelona full-back Marc Cucurella by triggering their six million euro (£5.5million) option to buy, according to reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old joined Jose Bordalas' men on loan at the start of the season after Barcelona exercised their four million euro (£3.6m) buy-back clause in his contract at fellow La Liga side Eibar.

The Spain Under-21 international has gone on to impress this season, scoring once and recording five assists from 34 starts in all competitions for Getafe.

However there is no buy-back option in his contract at the Madrid side, and that has led Spanish outlet MARCA to claim that he is set to make his move to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez permanent.

Such a move will see Getafe beat interested parties in the Premier League, Serie A and the Bundesliga to Cucurella's signature.

Cadena Cope revealed last month that Tottenham and Arsenal were among a host of clubs interested in him, before Goal revealed last week that Chelsea had joined the race.

Napoli, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen had all reportedly registered an interest in signing the Spaniard this summer as well.

The latest report on Cucurella's future also reveals that the Catalan club are guaranteed 40% of his future fee, meaning that if someone meets the 25 million euro (£22.8m) in his new contract, Barcelona would receive 10 million euros (£9.1m) of that fee.

Any deal however will end Cucurella's stay at Barcelona, for whom he has made just one appearance which came in a Copa del Rey game at Real Murcia in October 2017.
