Giggs 'shocked' by Premier League Hall of Fame snub after 2 players were named

Ryan Giggs is said to be furious about his Premier League Hall of fame snub on Monday as the Welshman was set to be inducted into the group over Thierry Henry, according to reports.

The former Manchester United winger was charged with assaulting two women and ‘controlling or coercive behaviour’ last week and will appear in court later this week. Giggs was suspended from his role as Wales manager ahead of Euro 2020 amid the court case. The 47-year-old has denied the charges.

Meanwhile, Henry was one of two Premier League players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame early on Monday alongside all-time record goalscorer Alan Shearer, formerly of Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.

But according to the Daily Mirror, it was planned for Giggs to be named ahead of Henry in the list but the former Arsenal striker was drafted in at the last minute - with the ex-United star livid about being left out.

Giggs was also left out of the 23-man shortlist for the remaining candidates to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Fans will vote on the other six players to be included in the all-star line-up.

Ten other Manchester United players were included, including Roy Keane, David Beckham and Paul Scholes - but there was no space for Giggs.

The 47-year-old has won the Premier League title 13 times, more than any other player in the competition's history - and made 672 appearances in England's top-flight for United.

Ex-Arsenal striker Henry is considered one of the finest players to grace the competition. He won two titles with the Gunners and was a key member of the 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ squad.

The Frenchman scored 174 goals over two separate spells at Arsenal last just over eight years, which is more than Giggs' total of 114.

Shearer is the top scorer in Premier League history with 260 goals. He won the title with Blackburn in 1994-95 and became a prolific striker for boyhood club Newcastle.

Other former Manchester United stars to be included were Eric Cantona, Andy Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Schmeichel, Robin Van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Michael Owen.

Arsenal are also heavily represented in the list with seven representatives including Van Persie, Ian Wright, Patrick Vieira, Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell and Gunner turned Chelsea star Ashley Cole.

As well as Ashley Cole, Chelsea also have John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba included in the list.

Liverpool have three representatives including Owen, Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.

Also included in the list are Southampton legend Matthew Le Tissier and former Newcastle and Tottenham striker Les Ferdinand.
