Griezmann joins Atlético until 2026

Griezmann has signed a deal with the club until 2026.

Atlético Madrid have reached agreement with Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann. The France international has signed a deal with the club until 2026. Griezmann has been one of his team’s best performers in recent matches.

The figures of the agreement signed between Atlético and Barcelona are as follows: the Madrid club pays the Catalan club 18 million euros plus two in variables. These two million are easily obtainable clauses. In addition, the contract includes another four million in variables, although complicated to achieve, so the two parties understand that the total cost will be 20 million. In other words, Atletico will halve the amount they were supposed to spend on the player at the end of this season.

Griezmann, 31, will sign for Atletico for three more seasons and could therefore retire from elite football in the Spanish capital. Atlético have done good business with the French striker. They signed him for the 2014-15 campaign, just after winning La Liga, from Real Sociedad. The club presided by Enrique Cerezo paid 30 million euros for a player who, at the age of 23, had already had very good seasons with the Basque club.

He spent five seasons at Atlético and became the most outstanding player in Simeone’s team. The Metropolitano outfit transferred him for 120 million to Barcelona (Real Sociedad took 24 million). A World Cup winner with France, Griezmann has played 304 games for Atlético and scored 144 goals, 32 of them in Europe (top scorer for Atlético). He has won three titles (a Europa League, a European Super Cup and a Spanish Super Cup). His great dream is to win a league title with the Madrid club. He is 30th in Atlético’s ranking with the most games played and can finish much higher. For Cholo he is a very important player. He has started the season very well and has told everyone who would listen to him that he is happy to be an Atlético player.
