Haaland renamed 'Terminator' after 45th goal for Man City vs Bayern Munich

Fans and commentators alike have branded Erling Haaland a 'terminator' after seeing him net his 45th (yes, forty-fifth) goal of the season during Manchester City's demolition of Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

The Norwegian striker grabbed the third goal in a 3-0 win to leave City with one foot in the Champions League semi-final ahead of next week's second leg at the Allianz Arena.

It was something of a swashbuckling performance all-round for Pep Guardiola's side, but attention after the game was firmly on Haaland with supporters awestruck by the ridiculous milestone he just passed.

"45 goals in one season โ€ฆ and we still have over a month left. This guy isn't human #Haaland," one fan tweeted.

"At this point, only Lionel Messi can prevent Erling Haaland from winning his first Ballon d'Or," said another, while a third commented: "45 goals in 39 games in the season and 11 in 7 Champions League games. Terminator."

Commentators in Spain also seemingly decided they would simply refer to Haaland as the cyborg character made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1984 film The Terminator and 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day. One fan tweeted: "Im watching the game in Spanish and the announcers keep calling Haaland 'terminator'. Another added: "Spanish broadcast not even saying Haaland name they're just calling him 'Terminator'."

How many goals will Haaland end up on this season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Despite all the goals, Haaland has split opinion among Premier League fans this season. Some have accused him of making City worse, in that his explosive, direct playing style isn't the right fit in Guardiola's traditionally fluid, short-passing setup.

Others, however, have rubbished the argument, insisting that his job, primarily, is to score goals, and the unprecedented numbers he's putting up are likely to outweigh any tactical cohesion issues his presence in the side creates.

Whatever the case, there's no denying that Haaland has been a monumental force of nature in front of goal all season, and if nothing changes he'll have broken all the records long before the decade's up.

And if he has made City worse, if he can help them win the Champions League for the first time next month, I doubt anyone at the club will care.
