Haaland's release clause confirmed: Real Madrid, Man United or City could pay it

Erling Haaland is one of the very top transfer targets for Europe's top clubs, having scored 76 goals in 75 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since he joined the club in January of 2020. His contract runs to 2024, but there is a release clause that would allow him to leave in the summer of 2022 for a fee of 75 million euros.

Given the 21-year-old's obvious talent and given the transfer market inflation that exists, this makes Haaland a modern day bargain.

There had been speculation over this clause for some time and MARCA has also revealed that this clause makes the player very attractive for the continent's biggest clubs. Now German publication Bild have confirmed that the 75m euro clause exists.

"His contract in Dortmund runs until 2024, but he can leave Borussia in summer for a fixed price of 75m euros," a line from Bild explained.

This statement came as part of an interview with Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Khan, who revealed that the Bavarian club would be able to make a major signing in the near future.

They, like Europe's other top clubs, have been linked with Haaland and Mino Raiola recently named Bayern as one of the four clubs Haaland might go too, although the agent later claimed the striker could join any one of 15 top clubs.

Haaland and Real Madrid's interest

The other three clubs named by Raiola were Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two Spanish clubs have been significantly linked with the player in recent weeks.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, the CEO of Borussia Dortmund, even named Real Madrid as one of the suitors.

"No matter where you go, everybody talks to you about Haaland," Watzke said, also in an interview with Bild.

"All I know for sure is that Real Madrid are very interested in him. I could name another 25 teams, but I know that for certain."

Bild have also explained that Manchester City and Manchester United join Real Madrid in their willingness and ability to pay the clause, while Barcelona would like Haaland but struggle to afford him and Bayern Munich could afford him but aren't thought to be as likely a destination.
