Ziyech contributed massively to the Atlas Lions’ eye-catching and historic run at the 2022 World Cup.

Rabat - Moroccan football star Hakim Ziyech has again warmly spoken about Morocco's historic run at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, this time emphasizing that the sight of Moroccan athletes kissing their mothers' foreheads in Qatar's stadiums showed to the rest of the world the importance Moroccans accord to their mothers.

In a recent interview with Vogue Netherlands, the Chelsea right winger said, “We have shown to the world how parents should be treated. I believe that moved people... I saw a teammate kiss his mother on the forehead, and that was one of the most beautiful images of the World Cup.”

When asked why his mother was not present at the global tournament, the player said that his mother is elderly and elderly people get sick easily, “I'd like to keep her with me for a while longer,” he explained.

The 30-year-old footballer highlighted that he no longer sees his mother as frequently but still calls her on a daily basis. “I don't see her as often as I used to. It took me some time to get used to it at first. When I was at Ajax, I went to see her two or three times a week,” he explained.

Reminiscing about Morocco’s achievements at the World Cup, Ziyech said, “It's a big milestone, but it also feels like a disappointment. We made it to the final four. We were so close, but we missed the championship.”

The playmaker went on to indulge in the historic significance of the Atlas Lions’ performances in Qatar. “We've never gone this far before, and everyone was thrilled,” he said. “But when you're on the field, there's only one thing that matters: winning. And that is something we did not do.”

An essential player for Morocco’s national football team, Ziyech contributed massively to the Atlas Lions’ eye-catching and historic run at the 2022 World Cup.

The Moroccan football star was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for his outstanding performance during Morocco's 2-0 victory over Belgium ( 2-0) in the group stages.

As he struggles for playing time in Chelsea, the Moroccan midfielder has been on the radar of several elite European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Ziyech was on the verge of joining the French club earlier this year, but Chelsea failed to submit the necessary documents before the transfer window deadline. According to the latest reports, however, the Parisian club is putting together a fresh offer to sign Ziyech from Chelsea.
