Owen Hargreaves claims the best Manchester United can ask for this season is fifth place in the Premier League, before insisting the club need to heavily back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the market.
Solskjaer continues to come under scrutiny at Old Trafford after yet another turbulent season for the club - United currently sit fifth in the Premier League, six points off Chelsea in fourth.
And former United midfielder Hargreaves - who has backed Solskjaer - claims that the club can't move further up the table without any assistance in the transfer window.
'He desperately needs help,' the former Red Devils midfielder told BT Sport. 'If you think, [Ander] Herrera left, [Marouane] Fellaini left, in midfield, they are really light.
'Then [Romelu] Lukaku leaves, [Alexis] Sanchez leaves, they don't have any help up top.
'[Marcus] Rashford then gets injured, [Paul] Pogba hasn't played. [Scott] McTominay, one of their best players this season, hasn't played.
'The recruitment wasn't there to back Ole up and then injuries to key players. To be fifth with this squad, I think right now is as good as it can possibly get.
'There are only four points separating fifth and 14th. I don't think it's going to more up, it's more likely to go down and that's the big worry.'

If I were him. I would play Dalot a lot more. He is the ONLY player who can put a decent cross into the box

ole only help is for the board to invest in new players, pay the money the teams need for their players and stop talking about overpricing

Best managers weren't best over 24hrs! Even Sir Alex was almost relegated in his first season...

There have been far too many articles about getting Solksjaer the sack and frankly it is becoming tantamount to abuse. It isn't the decision of journalists or former player pundits or fans either, and none of these people are party to what is going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford. Leave the bloke alone. He isn't doing that bad a job and given the injuries to key players and the squad he inherited just how any other manager would be doing much better is not obvious. The previous manager is struggling at Spurs having lost his most potent striker as well. The previous one to that has retired from football, and the one who succeeded the most successful manager in English football has the look of a man who has unwrapped an expensive looking present to find a dog turd inside the box. Pochettino was being touted a year ago but why would the club want to appoint him now, after Spurs decided he wasn't capable of bringing them success? Ancelotti looks to me like he is treading water at Everton before returning to a top job in Italy or Spain, and Tuchel is hardly likely to walk away from his PSG project before the end of the Champions League campaign, and if the French side do win it in May he will have the pick of the best clubs in Europe so why would he want to go to rainy Manchester? Solksjaer's three summer signings should have been four with a replacement for Lukaku, but again we can't know who United tried to get and part of their problem (shared with most if not all clubs) is buying players who fail to improve or even re-capture the form that encouraged a big money move. In the past United like all other English teams struggled to entice the best players to play in the PL. Ronaldo left - not because he was unsuccessful with United, but because the pinnacle of most player's ambitions is to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, not Manchester City or Liverpool or United or Chelsea or Arsenal. The PL is a far tougher league than the other European leagues in terms of physicality and played in far worse weather a lot of the time.,

Best solution is to sign experience players.Managing the few players left can't help

You are absolutely right Owen. How I wish the Fernandes transfer was concluded and Sancho and Madison were also landed at OT there would be hope of going better than fifth.

the problem is not the coach except the board members, they refuse to release money to buy the player's so don't blame Ole in any way.
