When Eden Hazard signed for Real Madrid in 2019, he had been running amok in the English Premier League for years and was the star man in the Belgian national side. Since signing at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, however, his fortunes have taken a turn for the worse and his Real Madrid dream has turned into something of a nightmare, with his time in the Spanish capital plagued by injury, and below par performances.
The Belgian is looking to get his career back on track, though, and will be looking to turn in some good performances as he captains his national side at this summer's European Championship.
He is the golden boy in Belgium's golden generation and, alongside Thibaut Courtois, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, he will be hoping for success over the coming weeks.
Hazard's ability to shine will very much depend on his fitness going into this competition after a season marred by numerous injuries and a positive COVID-19 test.
Belgium play their opening game against Russia this Saturday evening in Saint Petersburg, with Hazard's last international goal coming against the Russians in European Championship qualifying back in 2019 when he grabbed a quick-fire double in a 4-1 victory. That was 574 days ago, though.
Despite his many critics in Spain, Hazard is still revered by both his teammates and the fans in Belgium, who fully believe he's the man to captain this side to glory.
After a disappointing European Championship in 2016, being eliminated by Wales, followed by a semi-final exit in the World Cup in 2018 to France, 2020 could be the year that Belgium's golden generation finally fulfil their potential.
On the back of a difficult couple of seasons, Hazard will be determined to find redemption by leading his country to silverware.

Please don't be surprised to see Hazard wearing a band across his arm. It's not for an injury he picked up, it's the captain's armband for Belgium [byebye]
