Despite being billed as underdogs for the Istanbul UCL final, Simone Inzaghi is confident his men can spring a surprise against Man City.
Serie A’s Inter Milan will be looking to derail Manchester City’s bid to secure a historic treble (FA Cup, Premier League and Euro glory) as they face off in the 2022/23 Champions League final at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 10 June.
Inter start the game as outsiders but head coach Simone is confident that his team can deliver a shock in Turkey as Inter are set to participate in their sixth ever Champions League/European Cup final.
The ‘nerazzurri’ progressed to two consecutive finals in 1964 and 1965 and were champions on both occasions as the Milan giants put Real Madrid to the sword (3-1) with Lisbon based Benfica suffering a 1-0 defeat loss in the 65 final.
Inter fans were made to wait for their next success as despite reaching the final again in 1967 and in 1972, the Serie A side were beaten by Celtic in Lisbon with Ajax Amsterdam lifting the trophy in 1972 in a game staged in Rotterdam.
45 years after their previous win, Inter progressed to the 2010 Madrid final and surprised many with a 2-0 win over the fancied Bayern Munich. Argentine Diego Milito bagging the two goals at the Bernabéu with the team managed by Jose Mourinho who cemented his name in Inter folklore and is still a cherished figure in San Siro to this day.
