Is this the worst own goal EVER? Haiti goalkeeper Duverger suffers horror moment

Haiti goalkeeper Josue Duverger had a night to forget as he scored possibly one of the worst own goals of all-time against Canada on Tuesday.

The two teams were playing in the second round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, with the winner earning a place in the final round of qualifying for next year's tournament in Qatar.

Canada were leading 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg but struggled to break down their opponents in the second, with the score 0-0 at half-time. But they were given a huge helping hand just after the break following a calamity from Duverger.

Haiti defender Kevin LaFrance played his 'keeper a routine back-pass from just outside his own penalty area but Duverger made a mess of controlling it.

The ball rolled under the shot-stopper's foot and towards the net but slowly enough for him to get back to make a clearance.

However, as Duverger went to clear the danger with his right boot, his standing foot made contact first and he ended up slicing the ball into his own net.

The goalkeeper was horrified and immediately put his head in his hands before having a brief look at the ground, as if to search for a divot in the pitch.

To make matters worse, Duverger was born in Canada and was called up to the U17 team for an evaluation in 2016, before going on to represent Haiti.

Several fans tweeted to say Duverger's horror moment was probably the worst own goal they have ever witnessed.

One supporter wrote: 'This is probably the worst own goal I've ever seen, at least two chances to clear it!'

Another added: 'This is legit the worst own goal I've ever seen. That goalkeeper is going to have nightmares about it forever.'

Duverger's shocker was a sign of things to come with Canada going on to win 3-0 thanks to goals from Cyle Larin and Junior Hoilett.

It's the first time in 24 years that Canada have reached the final stage of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers with their last appearance coming ahead of the 1998 World Cup.

The only time they qualified for the tournament came in 1986 but John Herdman's squad will believe they have a strong chance of making Qatar next year.

Along with Hoilett, Canda have Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies and Lille striker Jonathan David in the ranks.

Canada will co-host the 2026 World Cup with the Uinted States and Mexico, meaning qualification should be guaranteed.
