An end looks to be in sight for the long-running issue of Ligue 1 broadcasting rights. There is a little over a month left to go until the new season begins, but the issue of domestic television rights for the 2024-2029 cycle has yet to be decided.
However, according to L’Équipe, this matter should finally be settled on Sunday evening as the board of directors for the LFP will decide between DAZN’s offer of €375 million per year with new financial guarantees or the league’s own channel.
DAZN’s offer would provide immediate financial funds to clubs and has reportedly improved in recent days with guarantees now being provided by the broadcaster’s parent company Access Industries (who also own Warner Music and Deezer) rather than the broadcaster itself.
However, club presidents are still divided on the issue, with some preferring the alternative option of a dedicated channel linked with Warner Bros Discovery, however, that choice would be unable to provide immediate funds to clubs ahead of the new season nor could it provide any guarantees on how much clubs would receive from the deal.
