Atletico Madrid paid tribute to the atmosphere at Anfield in a classy message following their Champions League first knockout round victory over Liverpool.
Madrid progressed 3-2 - 4-2 on aggregate - thanks to a Marcos Llorente double and Alvaro Morata after Gini Wijnaldum had opened the scoring to take the game to extra time.
Saul Niguez had initially given Atletico the advantage at the Wanda Metropolitano last month when he bagged the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win.
After knocking out the reigning champions, Madrid posted to their official Twitter account: "It was an honour to face such an exceptional side at a legendary stadium. The atmosphere at Anfield was incredible. Best of luck in the Premier League."
Liverpool return to action against Everton on Monday providing fixtures go ahead in the wake of coronavirus concerns.

VVD have being running away from responsibilities lately i partially blame him for the 2nd and 3rd goal Instead of him to close down on Llorente so his shot would be less powerful he was rather falling back giving more time and stability on the ball for Llorente to shoot...Adrian is not that bad after all because he took the responsibility when Allison wasn’t available at de club world cup
