A Sky Sports microphone picked up Gary Neville swearing during Sunday's broadcast of Liverpool 0-0 draw with Manchester City.
As fellow commentator Martin Tyler delivered his half-time summary to millions of viewers, Neville could be heard in the background ranting.
'That's the only thing he'll be thinking,' said Neville, who presumably did not realise he was within range of Tyler's microphone. 'It's f****** obvious. After a week like that…'
Sky presenter David Jones said on air at the end of the match: 'Apologies incidentally if you heard any bad language at all during our broadcast today.'
It remains unclear what Neville was talking about.
Earlier in the match, Neville had stated his case that City should have had a penalty when Sergio Aguero stumbled under a clumsy challenge from Dejan Lovren.
Neville spoke even more passionately earlier this week when reacting to a report about Jose Mourinho.
After hearing rumours that claimed the Manchester United board had decided to sack Mourinho regardless of the result in Saturday's game with Newcastle — which the Red Devils won 3-2 — Neville launched into a furious tirade.
Speaking on Friday, he told Sky: 'If this is true and Jose Mourinho is going to walk out to Old Trafford as almost a dead man walking, those fans will absolutely turn towards that boardroom. It's an absolute disgrace.
'I have to say Jose Mourinho will get the biggest support in his life inside that ground tomorrow. I'll be there to give it him!
'The dressing-room is leading what is happening. The tail is wagging the dog at the football club. Get some control back. Get some leadership. For me, at this moment in time, I am furious.
'Something has to change and it isn't the manager – it's above that. It comes to a point where this would be the fourth manager in six years. You have to look at not the manager but the people who are bringing them in, the people signing the players and sanctioning the deals.'

If he didn't know he was live, then it's not that big a deal, people swear half the time.

Sounds like the fault of whoever is directing the show. How would Neville know he’s being picked up talking in the background. Anyway if a kid goes to a match they will hear plenty of that!

Obvious frustration after watching such a lame and boring game. Collectively more than 1 billion worth players were playing football like a school game.

Give the man a break, he never knew he was being recorded. He is the only reason i watch sky sports. He is the best football commentator around right now. Football is passion, I swear all day when I watch, whether it is at my work or home... So the man without the same swearing sin, plz cast the 1st stone...

Absolutely shocking behaviour!!! Because of the time that this is broadcast and the amount of kids watching he should be given a lengthy ban or even sacked.

That is not acceptable in a family viewing program. He is a disgrace to himself, his employer and his family. Very poor role model

Surely Sky can do better than this individual. Very crude and amateurish.

He was just saying how obvious it is, the gap between the blue half of Manchester and the red half....... the swearing simply was how frustrated he is as a red ....

Neville is angry at the moment his old club are in chaos. He needs to breath into a paper bag, calm himself down, and get used to it.
